Character Designs Draco
Character designs based on a vintage cartoon style. A hybrid between Yolly and my ideas on character, the colours are indicative only.
Draco Concept Art Backgrounds Vintage
Been working on different styles for the backgrounds, these have been inspired by the classic vintage 1950s cartoons of Disney and Warner Bros.

Perfecting the Story
The last few production meetings have centred around the script and the vision for the project. Honing the story into a workable animated piece is taking longer than anticipated, but we would rather have all the issues worked out now than finding ourselves lost in an over detailed and overblown epic story with a cast of thousands.
After reworking the script and writing it as a narrative, the story was then given to our storyboard artist, Amy who will storyboard an intitial treatment and then we will work from that basis to economise visuals and tell the story in the most dynamic way possible- reboarding reboarding and more reboarding.
One of the things that has really helped us capture the essence of the story is a clarification on where we see the project moving towards and in particular the style we believe will best compliment our vision, more on that in posts coming soon.
Since our story has evolved, we thought it best to redo our promotional board on lvl 5, photos to come soon!
In keeping with the evolutionary process of the project, ideas for the character design are also changing and will continue to change as we move past each phase of storyboarding and reboarding.

Promotion!
Yep we have a board! Had to move a few left over illustrations from student films produced 5 years ago, but we now have a production progress board on level 5.
We'll use this board to post our latest concept art, storyboard segments and promotional materials for the film.

Slated
Welcome! This post marks the first of many that will trace our progress through all the production phases associated with creating a short animated film.
First came the basic idea and overall concept then we had to convince people it was a solid idea- the Pitch. Our pitch documents can be found here and they include a full breakdown of the idea, motivations, inspirations and where we see this project heading in the future.
Once the Pitch was given and it had been approved, there was a sigh of relief then a crash of confidence in the reality that we would actually have to make this thing. After picking myself off the floor and regrouping I began to think about the practicalities and all the items that had to be done. Our first task, to quote another animator is to 'worshop the shit out of this idea,' and its true. No time to be precious or over sensitive, we've got to put all that aside- be professional and work towards creating the best short film that we can; and with the talented team that we have assembled, I am confident that this will happen.
