Process of Elimination

After we sat and discussed the initial colour choices for the two characters, we then combined our choices and placed them side by side as couples to test the complimentary aspect of our colour choices. The choice of colouring for the two central characters is key not only in character creation but also dictates the colour palette used in environment creation. Here are the 'couples'

Draco Colour Tests

Initial Colour tests for the characters of Draco and Draak. The main aim is to capture the vintage feel using desaturated colours and also to create a sense of identity for the two dragons based on their character traits and associated colourings.

Story Beats & Script

Yep that's right the script has been locked down and its looking damn fine in its new trim form. I'm pretty happy with it and I think that changes that have been made have been done for the good of the project.

Below are the first very rough story beat sketches paying little attention to staging or cinematography.

Enter the Cave

Drawing caves should be easy, but it isn't and as it is a central part of the story I guess I had better start practicing. This one is probably more towards the 'Disney-esque' aesthetic rather than the vintage design, but it's a start.

Final Character Designs

Character designs have been locked, although the colours are still for illustrative purposes only.

They have been designed with the vintage aesthetic in mind and their colours (when chosen) will reflect their individual personalities and will be flat in application with no shading in keeping with the design treatment of the piece.

Their design is a classic rounded character construction based around 2 spheres that will enhance the vaudeville pantomime action of the characters adhering to the basic principles of animation.A full character breakdown of construction will follow shortly.
